LONDON MARKETS.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 25. The Department of Industries and Commerce have received the following cablegram, from the High Commissioner, dated London, February 23rd:—The butter, market is very depressed, and a fair demand continues, owing to the reports concerning the dry season, and in antic i- j .pation of small, supplies coming for- I ward from New Zealand. Later on in the season the market may, however, improve. Choice New Zealand butter is quoted at 995, Australian .975, Argentine 98s, and Danish 112s per cwt. The cheese market is very firm. There is a general and active demand for New Zealand makes at .66s per cwt. The hemp market is quiet, and little business is doing, but a good feeling prevails. There :has been a decline in price owing to heavy arrivals. Good, fair grade, on the spot, is worth £3B, and fair, current, Manila £4O. There is scarcely any demand for cocksfoot seed, and the market is quiet at 48s per cwt., for 17lb, clean dressed, seed. The wool market is firm. The current quotations for Bradford tops are: —36's, low crossbreds, Is 4£d; 40's, low crossbred, Is s|d; 44's, medium crossbred, Is 6d; 50's, halfbreds, Is lOd; 56's, quarter-breds, 2s; 60's, Merinos, 2s 3d per lb.
