The annual picnic of the Rongoikokako School was held yesterday in splendid weather, and was a decided success. Various races were run off, •and games indulged in during the -afternoon. Mr Bradstock, the Schoolmaster, presented Mrs T. Parsons' gold medal for the best behaved and most diligent scholar, to Miss M. Hunt. Mr J. Hare -was the recipient of a handsome case of pipes from the members of>the School Committee in recognition of the good work he had done on that body. During the afternoon the Eketahuna Mounted' Rifles' Brass Band contributed a programme of music, which was highly appreciated.

The building for the newly-formed Farmers' and Commercial Club is nearing completion. When finished it will be a splendid acquisition to the town. "

From April Ist Eketahuna will be constituted a Borough. The members of the present Town Board will hold their final meeting in March. The election of Councillors and Mayor has been fixed for the end of April. Several names have already been mentioned as likely candidates for the Mayoral chair. We are having showery weather here, and settlers are delighted, as it will ensure good feed for the win ter months. At present there is an ample supply of feed for stock. The County Council are keeping the roads in good order and repair. The roadmen are busily metalling the roads where required. The Rongokokako Cheese Factory received from suppliers in January 435,078 pounds of milk, being an increase of 124,356 pound's over the quantity received for the same month last year. The highest test for last month' was 4.3, and the lowest 3.5. The amount paid to suppliers for butter fat at 9d per pound amounted to £636 6s 9d, and the largest cheque paid to any one supplier was £65 lis 6d. This factory .make a practice of advancing 9d per pound each month, and ; paying the balance as a bonus. A new vat that will hold 650- gallons was recently erected, making the third of its kind now in use. A new store-room, 35ft x 20ft, \has been built for casing cheese, which was previously done in the curing New shelving has also been fitted up in the curing room.
