UNDERWRITERS' FIRE EXTINGUISHER.
The appliances that have been invented for extinguishing outbreaks of fire in buildings are many and varied. In another column particulars of the Underwriters' Fire Extinguisher are advertised, which should prove of interest to residents in both town and country. The extinguisher has been on the market for over ten years, and has established a record for reliability. Over 2,750 fires have been put out with them in the various properties protected. The machine is a copper cylinder', standing about .27 inches high, and only weighs, when charged, about; 351bs, so that a child or a woman can use it with ease. By simply reversing the machine it is put into operation, and a stream of j carbonic acid gas squirts out for a distance of over 40 feet. The stream immediately stops on the machine being, placed in an upright position again, 'thus one charge can be used many times. The Commis • sioners of the Christchurch Exhibition placed an order for fifty of these machines for use at the Exhibition. That they* have already been used successfully in extinguishing several small outbreaks, speaks volumes for their efficiency. Messrs R. E. Howell and Co. have been appointed Masterton agents for the Extinguisher and anyone interested can see the machines at the Auction Mart, Perry Street.
