- MASTERTON RAM FAIR. The New Zealand Loan and Mer•cantile Agency Company, Ltd., report that at their sale of, rams, yesterday, they submitted a long catalogue. For all really good sheep of •each breed there was plenty of competition, but faulty sorts were neglected. The bulk of the passed in dines were, however, all dealt with afterwards, some two or three lots only failing to sell. In Romneys Messrs S. J. Riddiford and W. H. Buick held the pride of position, these, gentlemen's rams being about equal with an average of 6|gns. Mr W. C. Dorset came nkxt with ojgns; -then followed Mr T. P. Allen 3f gns, MrW. Blatchford 3gns, other vendors 2gns to 3gns. Border Leicesters were principally represented by Mr J. B. McKenzie's entries, all selling at figures from 2gns to 3Jgns. In Southdowns an excellent line of shearlings, on account of Mr J. ■ Johns, of Canterbury, was penned,\a total clearance being effected at eminently satisfactory rates. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report on their sale at the Ram Fair yesterday, as follows: The majority . of rams submitted were Romneys, of which our entries comprised of 500. We experienced keen competition for all good classes, particularly for those of Messrs Q. Donald, Gray Bros, and H. Rayner, the forg mer obaining the highest price of the day in flocks. The demand for . second-class Romneys was slack, and these were either sold at low rates or passed in. There was only a limited enquiry for flock Southdowns, but good studs sold well, Mr J. Johns' line making a very satisfactory average. We only offered one line of Border Leicesters. Our chief sales were:—On account of Mr J. Johns, stud Southdown ewe lamb, 14gns, , 2-shear stud Southdowns 19gns, other shearlings sgns; on. account Mrs B. H. Slack, f.m..South-, downs to 4gns; stud Romneys on account Mr W. B. Sykes, s|gns to 6gns; Flock Romneys (shearlings), bred by-Mr J. O. Bidwill, 4gns; and 2-shear 3gns to sJgns; shearlings, on account Messrs Gray Bros., 4£gns to s£gns; on account Mr W. B. Allen, 3gns; on account Mr Q. Donald, 4fgns to lOfgns; shearling Border Leicesters, on account Mr T. P. Lett, 7£gns; shearling Southdowns, on account Mr T. Brooks, 2f gns. Messrs Abraham and Williams report on their first day's offering at the Masterton' Ram Fair as follows:—The breeds offered were Corriedale, Border Leicester, Southdown and Romney. Competition for all classes with the exception of good Romneys was not animated. All good rams in the latter class however were keenly competed for, notably sheep from the flocks of Messrs W. H. Buick and E. J. Riddiford. In stud Romneys Mr Riddiford easily topped the Fair with the excellent average of 40gns for 10 sheep submitted, the best price being 70gns, Mr Buick carrying similar honours for flock sheep with an average of 61gns. Mr W. B. Allen sold studs up to 20gns, and MrG. R. Sykes to lOgns. We quitted the .bulk of our catalogue at the following prices:—On account Mr E. J.
