A Gisborne telegram states that the scow Waikonini from Mercury Bay reports having lost an A.B. named Gus Hanley, a Finn, aged 39, off Port Awanui, on Wednesday evening. The man was at the wheel while the captain and crew were at tea, and after tying-up the wheel he took a life-buoy and disappeared over the side of the vessel which was fifteen miles off land.
