The Napier Gas Company has finally passed a resolution amending the Articles of Association in'the direction o*f enabling the company to supply electric power for lighting or motive purposes.

On account of the grass beginning to spring, as the result of the recent rain, there was an appreciable rise in the price of store sheep at the' weekly market sale at Ashburton, yesterday, and very few lines were passed in at auction. —Association.

At the meeting of the Masterton BoroughjCouncil, last evening, on the motion of Cr Temple, the Town Clerk was instructed to write to the Health Department and City Councils which have milk pasteurising plants, for information on the plants, with a view to erecting a similar plant in Masterton.

At the Druids' Conference, at Nelson, the election of officers resulted as follows Grand President, Bro. H. J. Gilbert; Grand Vice-Presi-dent, Bro. W. Hunter; Grand Secretary, Bro. J. N. Grant; Grand Treasurer, Bro. R. Fletcher; Grand Guardian, Bro. B. Wade; Trustees, Bros. E. Allerf and James Mackay.

The Treasury notified the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, that the application of the Council for a loan of £7OO for the extension of the high-pressure water supply to the Borough abattoir would be granted provided the Council complied with the provisions of the Loans to Local Bodies Act. The Council decided to hold a special meeting on Tuesday next to make special orders in connection with the loan.

The Masterton Borough Cotincil, last evening, decided not to admit the claim made' by Mr G. Heron against the Council for the sum of £lO5 for alleged damage to his property in Church Street, caused by the raising of the footpath fronting his - property. The Town Clerk reported that the claimant would not now be able to take any further action in the matter for ninety days.

In connection with the proposed extension of the water mains to South Road, the Town Clerk, in compliance with the Council's instructions, reported to the meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, that the estimated revenue that would be derived from extending the water along that street would be £ll 18s per annum. After discussion the Council decided to refer the matter back to the Town Clerk. With regard to extending the water to Walton's Avenue, the Town Clerk reported that the expenditure would be £9O and the revenue £6[perjannum. It was decided to proceed with the work of laying the mains in Walton's Avenue.

The bazaar in aid of the funds of the i Masterton South Band was opened, in the Kuripuni Hall, last evening, when there was a good attendance of the public. Prior to the opening,- the Band rendered selections outside the Hall. The manner in which the building was decorated and the stalls laid out reflected great credit on the promoters of the Bazaar, by whom the work,was carried out. The list of stalls and their holders is as follows Fruit and confectionery, Mesdames Wilton and Wellington; drapery, Misses Thorn and Bockman; bran tub and toy stall, Master J. Harding; refreshment stall, Mrs Harding; furniture and poultry, Master W. Harding. The goods in the Bazaar have been donated by business people and others, and the furniture was made by the promoters themselves. Good business was done at the various stalls. Mr J. Bentley rendered a number of selections on his phonograph, and they were greatly appreciated. The piano l used at the Bazaar was lent by the Dresden Piano Company. The Bazaar will be opened to-day at noon, and will be continued during the afternoon and evening. A special musical programme will be rendered this evening.

Mr T. J. Nott, of the Cafe de Paris, has a supply of pickled cockles. Mr W. H. Cruickshank advertises particulars of a new list of properties which have been in his hands for sale. Messrs Dimock and Co., Ltd., advise that the next days for receiving pigs at Eketahuna will be on Monday, March 4th, and at Mauriceville on Tuesday, March sth. Messrs Graham and Co. announce that their autumn and winter goods, which have been specially bought for them in the Home markets, will shortly be opened up. Particulars of the goods will be advertised later. At the Show Ground, this afternoon, Mr J. R. Nicol will sell, on account of the N.Z. Furnishing Company, their exhibits of high-class furniture, which are now on view at the Company's stall. ' At the Perry Street Mart, at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday next, Messrs R. E. Howell and Co. will submit at auction the balance of Mr E. W. Christmas' magnificent oil and water colour paintings. The paintings are now on view at the Mart, and as Mr Christmas will shortly leave for the Old Country, those who are interested in art works should not lose this last opportunity of securing one or more of these very fine paintings. At the meeting of the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, it was decided to write to the representative of Messrs Shand, Mason and Co., at Christchurch, regarding the prices of a new fire-box for the fire engine. The Borough Engineer had previously reported that a new firebox was necessary for the engine. The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Municipal Fire Brigade "was held last evening, Captain Jenkins presiding. Leave of absence was granted to Hydrantman Church and Fireman Johnston. A letter was received from the Secretary Gilberd, U.F.8.A., in reference to competition boots, consideration of which was deferred till the next meeting. Other business of a routine nature was transacted, and the meeting i adjourned.
