MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. The Deputy-Mayor (Cr Feist) presided over the ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council last evening. There were also present:— Crs J. Elliott,- F. W. Temple, W. Morris, E. G. Eton, J. C. Ewingtoft and E. McEwen.. A letter was received from Mr H. 0. Fowles, of Bannister Street, objecting to pay for a culvert in front of his property, which had been put in by the Borough authorities without first consulting him. The old culvert, which he had paid for, had been removed without his permission. The Engineer stated that the old - culvert was inadequate. It was decided to re-fund half the cost of the new culvert to Mr Fowles, and'return the old culvert to him. Massrs Chamberlain Bros, wrote asking the Council to extend the culvert over the open water-table along the front of their mill in Albert Street. Crs Ewington, McEwen, Elliot and Temple were appointed a committee to interview Messrs Chamberlain Bros, in the matter. On the motion of Cr Temple, seconded by Cr McEwen, it was cided "that no new footpath works that are likely to affect property such as Mr G. Heron's in Church Street, should be ' proceeded with until the claim which Mr Heron has made against the Council is settled." Plans submitted by the Engineer for the widening and extension of Makora Road to Kuripuni Street were ■ approved of. Accounts amounting to £360 19s 6d were passed for payment.
