MASTERTON MUNICIPAL BAND.

RETURN TO MASTERTON. The members of the Masterton Municipal Brass Band returned to Masterton yesterday after competing in the International Exhibition Contest, at Christchurch. Some of the members of the Band came home by the mid-day train yesterday, but the majority did not arrive back until last evening. At the Railway Station there was a large attendance of the public, and as the train steamed in the Masterton South Brass Band struck up "See the Conquering Hero Comes." The Band was given a hearty welcome, and was played into town by the jMasterton South Band. Arriving at the Post Office the Municipal Band, assisted by the members of the South Band, rendered two selections before a large crowd. Mr P." W. G. McLeod, conductor of the Municipal Band, addressed those present andfsaid that the Band .-had gone to Christchurch r with the object of doing their best to uphold the reputation of Masterton, and they had done so. He thanked the public for turning out to welcome the Band. He alsojthanked the Masterton South Band for the welcome they had extended to his men. Though the Masterton South Band were only, few in numbers they were enthusiastic, and that was what was required in a band as well as in everything else. He was sure his Band appreciated the action of the Masterton South Band. The speaker then called on his men to give three cheers for the Masterton South Band. The cheers were heartily given. Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., also apoke, and referred eulogistically to the manner in which the Band had gone through the Contest. To have occupied [such a high position among the best bands of the colony was indeed a performance to be proud of. He also made reference to the Band being half-a-point behind the Wanganui Band in the Quickstep Contest. At Mr Hogg's invitation three cheers were given for the Masterton Band. The gathering then dispersed.
