THE WANGANUI BAND. The following are the principal achievements of the Wanganui Band during the past nine years:— 1898. —Napier: Second in test selection and first in marching competition. 1899.—Palmerston North: Second in test selection, and also in marching competition. 1900. —Wellington: Second in test selection and second in marching competition. 1901. —New Plymouth: Highest aggregate for music throughout contest, and won the Besson shield. 1902. —Wanganui: First in test selection, first in marching competition, and won the Besson shield. 1903. —Masterton: Second in test selection and first injnarching competition. 1904: Timaru: First in test selection and first in marching competition. The band did not compete at the contest held in Palmerston North, at which Kaikorai won the test selections, marching, and Besson Shield. 1905.—Auckland: First in test selection, first in marching competition, and won the Besson shield. 1906. Hawera: Won the test selection, the marching competition, and the Besson shield. 1907. —Exhibition Contest: Won the test selection and marching competition.

The Kaikorai (Dunedin) Band, who scored the possible number of marks for music in the Quickstep, obtained the highest number of marks for music in the two selections and the Quickstep, beating Wanganui by three points,
