CHURCH AND STATE. Received February 14, 9.13 a.m. PARIS, February 13. Owing to the Vatican's attitude, the Minister for Public Instruction (M. JBriand) has arranged for a contract enabling a priest to secure a lease of a church for eighteen years, the clergy to be responsible for repairs. The benefit of the contract extends to any successor appointed by the bishop. A satisfactory settlement is more assured.
