PAHIATUA STOCK SALE.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report as follows on their Pahiatua stock sale, held yesterday : v —An extra heavy yarding of sheep was submitted to a large attendance of the public. Taken right through the quality was .better than usual, consequently a good sale resulted. Competition for the better class of breeding ewes and lambs was keen. Wethers, however, of which there was a fair offering, were somewhat slow of sale, several of the lines in this class failing to find purchasers. Taken all round the sale for sheep was the most satisfactory we have had so far this season. A really, good line of 2-tooth ewes topped the market, making 17s, and a straight station line of four-year-old ewes reached 15s 7d. In cattle the yarding consisted chiefly of female stock, and although prices were low the whole catalogue with the exception of two small lots changed hands at auction. We quote:—Sheep: Four year-old ewes (best) 15s 7d, other breeding ewes 13s lid, 13s lOd, 13s ' 2d, 13s, 12s lid, 12s 7d, 12s 2d. 12s, down to 9s 7d for inferior lots, 4-year-old ewts 15s 3d, 2-tooth ewes 14s to 'l7s, cull 2-tooths lis id to lis 6d, old ewes 6s 2d to 8s 4d, 2 and 4-tooth wethers (best) 15s Bd, others 13s to 13s 4d, lambs (best shorn) 9s sd, others 7s 9d, 7s, 6s 9d, 6s 4d, 6s 2d, 6s, culls (lambs) 3s 2d, to 4s lid, woolly lambs (small) 6s to 6s 3d, Cattle: Fat and forward bullocks £5 ]Bs to £6 6s, 3-year-old steers £4 16s, 2-year-old steers £2 16s, yearling steers 21s to 31s, heifers in calf 31s to £2 7s Cd, springing cows £5, fat and forward cows £4 6s, £4, £3 14s, £3 3s, £3, store cows 30s to £2 Is.
PAHIATUA AND MASTERTON STOCK SALES.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.,. report as follows: —At our Pahiatua stock sale on Tuesday sheep came forward in fair, average numbers, and the quality generally was good; one line of 300 4-year ewes, beyond the average, making 15s 6d; other ewes of medium quality making good values, as did inferior sorts. All lambs of good class found ready buyers, one cull lot only failing to sell. Cattle showed little improvement in price, and were hard to quit at even low figures. At Masterton, yesterday, we penned fully 4,000 sheep, embracing all classes. For all sound ewes, strong wethers and good lambs we had brisk bidding. Aged ewes and culled lambs dragged all through the sale, these sorts having to be dealt with privately at low rates. Of the catalogue submitted only a few pens failed to change hands. In cattle we had a small yarding, and those 'were neglected. However, we quitted all but one pen of heifers. Weaner pigs showed a decline in price. At Pahiatua —Best ewes 15s 6d, others 12s to lis, culls 6s to Bs, woolly lambs 9s Bd, shorn 6s to Bs, wethers 13s, 3 and 4-year steers £4 14s, forward cows 40s to 50s, heifers 30s, weaners 8s to 12s. At Masterton—Fat ewes 13s 6d to 13s 9d, forward ewes 10s to lis, breeding ewes 9sto 10s, culls 4s to ss, best lambs 10s, others 8s to 9s, small 5s to 6s, 2-tooth wethers 12s to 13s, 3-year steers 20s, yearling and 18-month steers 30s, calves 15s, store cows 30s, weaner pigs 10s to 14s.
