AN UNREHEARSED SENSATION. Received February, 13, 10.20 a.m. PERTH, February 13. During a theatrical performance two horses fell a distance of 30 feet through an aperture of the stage, during a racing scene. The riders were not seriously injux*ed. One horse was killed.

COLLIERY TROUBLES. Received February 13, 10.20 a.m. SYDNEY, February 13. Trouble is threatening in connection with the Western collieries. The miners ask for a fixed hewing rate, instead of the sliding scale provided by the Arbitration award. The owners offer to give a fixed rate on conditions which the men cannot accept.

MURDER OF A CHINAMAN. Received February 13, 10.20 a.m. MELBOURNE, February 13. The body of a Chinaman was found in an old shaft near Castlemaine. He had been brutally murdered and thrown down the shaft.

VANCOUVER MAIL SERVICE. Received February 13, 10.39 a.m. MELBOURNE, February 13. It is probable that the Vancouver service will be re-arranged, as the result of negotiations between the Federal Post-master General and the Union Company. Brisbane may be discontinued as a port of call and Wellington may be substituted.

ACTION FOR DAMAGES. Received February 14, 12.58 a.m. ' SYDNEY, February 13. Mr W. P. Crick has commenced an action for £2,000 damages against the Sergeant-at-Arms for ejecting him from the Assembly some time ago.

SHIPWRECKED MARINERS

Received February 14, 1.15 a.m MELBOURNE, February 13.

The German ship Deruyter, from Philadelphia to Japan, has been signalled at Queenscliffe. She had shipwrecked mariners on board. A tug went out and brought ashore Captain Ree and two sailors belonging to the Danish schooner Catherine, wrecked on the Crozet Islands on December 14th. All hands are safe on the island. The captain and two men left in a ship's boat to get assistance. They were at. sea nine days , when they were.picked up by the Deruyter.

QUEENSLAND I POLITICS. Received February 13, 10.20 a.m. BRISBANE, February 13. 1" The Workers' Political Organisation of Rockhampton denounced the action of the Premier (Mr Kidston), which they consider'a menace to democracy. The Premier is likely to be opposed by the Opposition, and by the Labour Party.
