ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.
Received February 13, 7.34 a.m. LONDON, February 12. Lieutenant Shackleton will command the British Antarctic expedition, which leave in October tor New Zealand. The expedition will land a party at the Discovery's winter quarters, returning to ; Lyttelton J and next year will pick up the explorers. While the expedition hopes to land a party at Mount Melbourne to try to reach the Magnetic Pole, its main object is to pursue sledging discoveries and to create a new "Farthest South" record. To reach the geographical South Pole it is intended to use a motor car suitable to the ice.
