TURF NOTES. ("By Zetland"). The Merrie England gelding Arahura has been purchased by Mr H. McManaway, of Carterton. The horse is now being schooled over hurdles, and is showing special aptitude in the new department. Mr J. Cress has purchased the San Fran filly San Julie. She has proved to be speedy in her work, and won a Scurry at the Lower Valley meeting on December 26th last. The Taratahi horses Jolly Friar, Lady Pet, Variation, and Silken Rein, are now being schooled over hurdles. All are likely to be proficient at negotiating the obstacles, judging by their first efforts. Scotch Reel is now being trained by Mr Donald Wilkinson, at Clareville. This trainer also has the Bonnie Scotland mare Secretary in work. Mr L. Masters has sold English Rose to Mr C. Machell, of Christchurch. This filly should make a good three-year-old, and prove a profitable purchase to her new owner. A good offer was made recently for Royal Blue, but his owner preferred . to keep the Merrie England gelding, -who has certainly done good service for him. Wailethe is showing improved form, since being in Mr H. Fletcher's hands, and will be raced during the autumn. The JUannevirke Jockey Club should be well pleased at the response of •owners for the meeting to be held on March 6th and 7th, the hack events having filled especially well. That good sprinter Gawain will be seen out under colours again shortly. He has been by a lengthy spell, and, may be ready to show his \ best form before long. Mr T. C. White, of Tauherenikau, is working the Lethe gelding ■ Whatakura. Fie has grown up considerably since he was raced two years ago, and looks a likely stamp for a hurdler.

DANNEVIRKE JOCKEY CLUB. The following horses were inadvertently omitted from the list of nominations for the Dannevirke meeting: —Rosegrove in the Tamaki Welter, Autumn Handicap and Kaitoke Welter; and Miss Riwaka in the Electric Hack and Telephone Hack.
