MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WORKS COMMITTEE. The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Borough Council Works Committee was held, last evening, there being present—The Deputy-Mayor (Cr E.Feist), Crs J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, W. Morris, E. G. Eton and E. McEwen. Mr C. E. Daniell, ; Chairman of the Trust Lands Trustees, waited on the Committee and asked whether the Council would not make the same concession to the Trust as the Compensation Court had made in the case of and Co. in connection with the widening of Bannister Street. The Trust were desirous of settling the matter before the end of the financial year. * It was pointed out that the Council could not legally retract from the position it had been forced to take up by the Court. ' The Council decided to refund the amount paid for the construction of the footpath near the Trust section in Bannister Street amounting to about £B. * - Messrs Seaton and Sladden, civil engineers, submitted plans for the subdivision of Fraser's Estate. Crs Morris, Pauling, and McEwen were appointed a committee to report on the matter. Mr T. Knight wrote offering to shift back his fences in Bentley Street at his own expense, for the widening of the street, provided the Council took the land thus taken at a valuation to be fixed. Crs Pauling, McEwen and Ewington were appointed a committee to interview Mr Knight in the matter. An application for a carriage license by Mr D. Wright was granted subject to the approval of the Inspector. The Engineer reported that he estimated the cost of extending 3-inch water mains for additional 22 chains along South Road at £l2O. The matter was held over until }a report had been received from the Town Clerk as to the revenue that would be derived from the rates of the locality that would receive the water service. The question of installing 15 chains of 3-inch and live chains of l£-inch njains in Walton's Avenue was also held over pending the Town Clerk's report. The tender of J. Duthie and Co. was accepted for pipes for completing the reticulation from Pine Street to Lincoln Road, the price being £8 10s per ton f.o.r. Wellington. A proviso wds added that tenderers should deliver the pipes at Masterton, the Cruncil to pay the freight. Accounts amounting to £409 9s "Were passed for payment.
