HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph— Association." 1 ; WELLINGTON, February 11. . The Department of Industries and Commerce have received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, 9th inst.: — Mutton: Market dull, and there is limited demand for all qualities. Very few really prime carcases of mutton have been at the market lately. There is no change to report in prices. Lamb is quiet and very unsettled on account of conflicting cables regarding the dry season now prevailing. Australian lamb is in large supply and of good quality; this season's New Zealand lamb is quoted at 6Jd for. Canterbury brands, and other than Canterbury brands sid per lb. There is a better demand for beef. There is a large supply of chilled beef on hand of irregular quality. The average price of New Zealand beef is 3£d and 2£d for hind and forequarters, respec- • tively. The butter market is overstocked and depressed. Some holders of butter are forcing sales, while buyers are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. Retailers are catering for the shilling trade, which affects the market. The average price of choicest New Zealand • butter, today, is 103s per cwt.; Australian, 98s; Danish, 114s; Argentine, 101s. The cheese market is very firm, and the stock moderate. There is a general and active demand. New Zealand brands are quoted at 65s per cwt. The hemp market is quiet, but firm. The price of New Zealand hemp, good, fair Wellington grade, on spot, per ton, is £39 10s; January to March shipments, £3B 10s per ton; Manila, fair, current grade, on spot, £42 per ton. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and prices are firm. The average price for bright, clean, New Zealand cocksfoot seed, weighing 171b per" bushel, is 48s per cwt. New Zealand short-berried wheat, ex granary, per quarter of 4961b, is quoted at 29s 6d, on a firm market. New Zealand short,Sparrowbill, oats, ex granary, on spot, per quarter of 3841b, are quoted at 255. New Zealand Danish oats, ex granary, on ' spot, per quarter of 3201b, are quoted at 18s. The stock on hand is small, but the market is firm. New Zealand beans, f.a.q. (old crop), per 5041b, are quoted at 325. The market is quiet. New Zealand Partridge peas, per 5041b, are quoted at 40s; New Zealand blue peas, per 5041b, are quoted at 355. The market is firm. The wool market is firm) and business prospects are good. Current quotations for Bradford tops are:—36's, low crossbreds, Is 4Jd.per lb; 40's, low crossbreds, Is sd; 44's, medium crossbreds, Is 6d; 50's ; halfbreds, lslOd; 66's, quarterbreds, 2s; 60's, merinos, 2s 3d.
