ATHLETICS.

Messrs C. J. Morris, L. C. McLachlan, J. O'Brien, C. Gomer, V. M. Richards, A. Campbell, R. Watters, W. H. Hall, and L. Ward, who are all well-known in the Wairarapa, have nominated for the Hawke's Bay Highland Society's Sports, to be held at Napier to-morrow. In the 120 Yards Handicap, Morris and McLachlan are on the scratch mark. O'Brien has 4yds start, and Gomer and Richards Byds start. Sixteen entries have been received for this event, and the limit man has 12yds | start. In the 220ydsHandicap McLachlan is scratch, Morris has syds start, ', Richards 13yds, and Gomer 14yds. The entries number sixteen, and the limit man has 18yds start. In the 440 Yards Handicap, McLachlan is scratch, Campbell has 20yds and Watters 20yds. The entries total eighteen, and the limit man has 40yds start. Campbell is the scratch man in the 880 Yards Handicap, Watters has 25yds, start, Hall 30yds and Ward 40yds. The limit man has 50yds, and there are sixteen entries. In the One Mile Handicap, Campbell will start off the scratch mark, while Ward has 50yds start and Hall 85yds. The limit man has 120 yds start. The entries in this event total fourteen. A number of athletes have lately been, training on the Masterton Park Oval in view of approaching sports meetings. Among them are C. J. Morris, • New Zealand champion sprinter, who will compete at Napier; J. O'Brien and V. M. Richards, who, also, intend competing at Napier; N. H. McEwen, who will be a competitor at the St Patrick's Day sports, at Masterton, and a* Hamua; and J. Bradbury, who has been selected as one of the representatives of Wellington Province at the New Zealand Amateur Championship Meeting, at Christchurch, this month. They are all in good form, and should give a good acconnt of themselves.
