A TUG-BOAT WRECKED.

AUCKLAND,|February 8. . ! The tug-boat Awarua was totally • , wrecked'near Whangarei Heads on Wednesday. The steamer had coaled -at Whangarei, and went to the Kauri Mount for a raft of logs." When making into the shore about half a mile off she struck an uncharted rock. A heavy surge was on at the 'time, and the rocks penetrated the bottom of the vessel, which soon became full of/ water. The tug-boat Pelican was despatched to the scene •of the wreck by the Devonport Perry Company, owners of the Awarua, •and the vessel was stripped of everything of value. The crew are'all safe. The company insure their own vessels. The place where the Awarua struck is known as the Fanny Kelly Reef, where some years'ago a ketch •of that name was lost with all hands, including a number of women and children.
