MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. The ordirm'y meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening. The Deputy-Mayor (Cr Feist) presided., and there were also present: Crs J. H. Pauling, J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, T. G. Hoar, W. Morris, E. G. Etton, J. C. Ewington and E. McEwen. The Valuer-General wrote stating that he had no objection to Mr J. Fraser, Government Valuer, acting as valuer in any case that may arise, where the Borough is concerned. Mr C. J. Reakes, acting Chief Veterinarian, wrote stating that he had sent the Council's letter, requesting that the Minister of Agriculture be asked to arrange for an advance of the sum of ;£7OO to the Council for the purpose of putting in a high pressure water supply at Abattoir, to the Minister with a recommendation that the loan be granted. Messrs Robinson and Robinson, solicitors, wrote acknowledging receipt of the Council's letter stating that the plan of the sub-division of Mr Kinvig's property, as put in by them, had been approved by the Council. The writers further stated that they explained when putting forward the plan that they would probably put in an amended plan, and in the meantime'they did not ask for the approval of the plan put forward in the first place. The matter would be brought forward again at an early date. Mr Z. R. Renall, on behalf of the trustees of the Renall Estate, wrote with reference to straightening the road through the Ngawatawa block in the estate. VThe trustees considered the Council's methods arbitrary in the matter, but they would be prepared to straighten the road, as ordered, from their own boundary. They would, however, refuse to go back on Cole's Road in any way. If anything further was required it must be done at the Council's expense. The report of the sub-com-mittee, recommending that the Council should adhere to its previous resolution that the road must be straightened, was adopted. Mr F. G. Wayne, Stock Inspector, wrote asking the Council for the continued use of the paddock, containing about 12 acres, forming part of the Borough waiter works reserve, until such time as it was i-equired by the Borough for its own use. The Council decided to take formal possession of the paddock, but to allow the Stock Department to run a few horses in it for the time being, subject to a month's notice. The report of the sub-committee defining an area within which all business premises must be built in brick, was adopted, Cr Ewington voting against it. It was decided to hold a special meeting during next week to form a by-law in connection with defining the area. Accounts amounting to £1,264 9s 6d were passed for payment.
