LONDON MARKETS. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, February 4. The Department of Industries and Commerce has recieved the following cable from the High* Commissioner, dated' London, February 2nd:—The butter market is steady, and there is a fair demand for the better grades. New Zealand butter is giying satisfaction to buyers, and the choicest brands are quoted at 104s per cwt; Australian is 99s and Danish 114s per cwt. The cheese market is firm, with an upward tendency, and there is a good demand at 64s for New Zealand manufacture. The hemp market is quiet, but firm. Good business has been done. Good, fair grade ,on the spot is quoted at £4O; JanuaryMarch shipment £39; fair, current Manilla £43. There is a better demand for cocksfoot seed. Bright dressed, 171bs to the bushel, is quoted at 48s per cwt. The mutton market is weak. The quantity going into consumption at present is very small, but the supply meets the demand. Light Canterbury mutton is scarce, and is quoted at 4|d. The average price of heavyweight Canterbury is 4£d per lb. North Island mutton is quoted at 4§d, and 4Jd per lb for light and heavy weights, respectively. The lamb market is quiet, as buyersare not prepared to make forward purchases at present prices. The market is very unsettled on account of the contradictory' reports which are current regarding the drought affecting New Zealand shipments. The nominal price of New Zealand lamb is 6d per lb, and Australian is quoted at 4jd per lb. The beef market is dull. Hindquarters are quoted at 3fd and fores at 2Jd per lb.
