ALLEGED ILLEGAL SEIZURE.
Received February 4, 9.56 p.m. BERLIN, February 4. The owner of the forest, from whence the timber was seized, took refuge in the German Embassy. He declared that he was detained at Fehim Pasha's house for a fortnight and beaten frequently until he signed an agreement to pay Fehim Pasha 20 per cent, of the profits of his business. , The Sultan, in response to the German Embassy's demand, has ap • pointed a commission to enquire into the'alleged exaction and seizure. (A cablegram received a'few days ago stated that Germany had demanded , the punishment of Fehim Pasha, chief of the secret police at Yildiz, for extortion and seizure of timber on board a British ship bound for Hamburg. The British Embassy supported the demand.)
