THE KINGSTON DISASTER.

THE "SWETTENHAM INCIDENT." Received February 3, 4.32 p.m. LONDON, February .2. Sir Alfred Jones, who has returned from Jamaica, in an interview, said he thought it was not right for the American troops to land at Kingston. He says Sir J. A. Swettenham worked splendidly. Mr Ralph Caine states that Admiral Davis told him. that he landed the troops, without the exchange of courtesies, as an act of- humanity. He sent two officers to inform Sir J. A. Swettenham. Sir J. A. Swettenham.cables that the bodies of 606 victims of the' earthquake had been buried. The Washington correspondent of The Times states that President Roosevelt has conveyed to Mr Metcalf, United States Secretary of Commerce and Labour, his approval of Admiral Davis' action, and Mr Metcalf has written to Admiral Davis a letter of commendation. The Kingston correspondent of theTribune states that, as a result of the earthquake, the disbanding of. the West.lndia regiment has been pended, and that the barracks which were destroyed will be re-built shortly.
