NEW ZEALAND INSTITUTE.

At the' annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute, to-day, it was announced that the Government had decided to issue a manual of New Zealand mollusca, and had appointed Mr Henry Suter, of Auckland, editor. The Hutton Memorial Committee! reported that £350 had been raised frorcfprivate is recommended that a Hutton medal should be issued from time to time to persons who made some notables contributions in connection with the zoology, botany, or geology of New Zealand. It was decided, that it be left to the discretion of the Publication Committee to say ~ whether siesmographical records shall be published. The Institute decided to express its complete sympathy with the projected survey of the southern islands. Mr G. F. Thompson, of Dunedin, was elected president.
