HASTINGS RAM FAIR.
By Telegraph—Press Association. NAPIER, January 31. The Fair was held at Hastings to-day. The number of rams was the largest ever offered, but stud rams were comparatively few, the number of these showing a great falling off from former years. Flock rams, however, came forward in very large numbers. Practically only North Island breeders were represented, nearly all the South Island sheep, which were on the ground having been sent in by other sellers. There was a good demand for Lincolns and Rorrmey Marsh, especially the former, and good prices were realised for first-class animals. Stud Lincolns went up to 50gns, that price being paid for a ram bred by Mr Wybourne, of Whenuakura. 94gns, 40gns and 36gns were paid for rams bi-ed by Mr W. Perry, Masterton, and 44gns and 32gns for sheep bred by Mr W. Rayner, of Masterton. Flock Lincolns went up to lOJgns, this price being obtained for sheep bred by Mr J. Hastings. Stud Romneys easily topped the sale, the record price of 112gns being paid for a ram bred by Mr E. J.. Riddiford, of Orongorongo, Hutt. Other sheep by the same breeder brought 33gns, 20gns and 26gns. For flock Romneys Mr Riddiford alsp secured the highest prices, 7Jgns and BJgns being the top figures. A few flock English Leicesters sold at 4|gns. For flock Border Leicesters the top price was sgns for a sheep bred by Mr J. D. Hughes, of Waverley. Flock Southdowns made 6§gns, which price was paid for a sheep bred by Mr G. Rhodes, EHesmere, Canterbury, and 41 gns was the top price for Shropshires, Mr, Jas. Johns' sheep reaching that figure. 4sgns was paid for some of Mr Jas. Littles' Corriedales.
