DISTRICT SCHOLARSHIPS.
THE ANNUAL EXAMINATIONS.
The results of the scholarship examinations, open to pupils attending schools under the jurisdiction of the Wellington Education Board, are now available. The holder of each National and Queen's Scholarships receives free tuition at any secondary school for three years, 'with £lO per annum, and if obliged to live away from home an additional! sum of £3O per annum. A Board Scholarship entitles the holder to a free place and £5 per annum for two years, with £4O per year if he is obliged to live away from home. The difficulty in Wellington at present is that while the holders of scholarships are entitled to free places, there are no free places for them to 'occupy (owing to. the lack of accommodation) except at the District High Schools and the Technical School. Some senior scholarships have yet to be allotted by the board, but the will not be available for some little time. A third National Scholarship has also to be awarded. In class A probably twenty of the competitors will be awarded scholarships, and in class B. probably half a dozen or more. The number of scholarships to be awarded in any class is determined by the, amount of money available, and must be in accordance with order of merit. CLASS A. ■
