FIRE ON A STEAMER.

Received January 29, 8.29 a.m. CALCUTTA, A fire broke out on board the North German Lloyd's liner Seydlitz (a twin-screw steamer of 7,942 tons), bound from Colombo to Penang. The first-class British cruiser Diadem, which was in the Bay of Bengal, rescued 104 passengers and mails and escorted the Seydlitz to Ceylon, where she now remains.
