LABOR CONFERENCE AND MEMBERS.

The Labour Conference was not a particularly happy gathering. No pain was spared to show the Labour members of Parliament that they were purely servants of the conference. Mr J. C. Watson, ex-Federal Premier, was told straight out that politicians were the creatures of the conference, and that he must do as he was told. Mr Watson warrhlly resented this, and said he would go as far as he wanted, but no further.
PLAGUE IN SYDNEY,
Received January 28, lO^^a.m. SYDNEY, January 28. Another plague case and another death are reported. There are two areas of infection — one in the heart of the city, another in Haymarket. Received January 28, 11.15 p.m. SYDNEY, January 28. The plague .is spreading rapidly among the employees of two firms in a block of buildings fronting King Street and George Street in the Post Office block. There were four more cases to-day —three girls and a man. The authorities are making strenuous efforts to cope with the outbreak.
WELL-DISTRIBUTED RAINFALL.
Received January 28, 10.43 a.m. SYDNEY, January 28. Good rains have fallen in New South Wales. Over an inch has been registered at Sydney, and nearly three inches at Broken Hill. There has been a heavy fall Jn Central Australia, ranging up to two and a-quarter inches. A heavy sea is running along the coast.
