INSURANCE.
Received January 25, 9.50 a.m. LONDON, January 24. The Union Insurance Company, having been heavily hit by the San Francisco disaster, has been amalgamated with the Commercial Union Insurance Company. (This amalgamation extinguishes one of the oldest companies in existence, the Union Office having commenced fire insurance business in 1714. Life assurance was added in 1813).
