MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The -monthly meeting of the •Mauriceville County Council was held -on Saturday, January 9th. There were present—Crs F. W. H. Rummer (chairman),C. Churchill Jackson, CI. A. Wall, J. F. Heckler, and H. J. Dagg. Correspondence was received and dealt with from the following:— -Department of Labour, re appointment >of weekly half-holiday. No -aciton was taken by the Council. H. W. Watson, re transfer of reserve at . Hastwell. The transfer was approved. It was resolved to review C. Franzen's maintenance contract on the Mauriceville West and Mauriceville South roads. The following •tenders for metal for patching were • dealt with:—Contract No. 28, Main Road, 2s 6d and 3s.per cubic yard for • first mile and Is for each extra mile, A. E. Blade (accepted). Contract No. • 30, Dreyer's Rock Road, 3s per cubic.yard for first mile and Is for each -extra mile, A. E. Blade (accepted). Contract No. 31, Mauriceville. North Road, 2s per cubic yard for the first mile and Is for each-ex-tra mile, Lars Larsen (accepted). Contracts 32 and 33, Mauriceville •West and Jackson's Roads, 2s 3d per cubic yard for the first mile, and Is for each extra rhile. No tender was .received for Contract 29 Mangamahoe Road. It was resolved to impose the 10 per cent, penalty on all rates outstanding after the Ist of March. The Inspector reported that the examination of the buried ends of the wire ropes at the suspension bridge erected by Mr J. Dawson indicated . that no deterioration had -taken place, but ,with Mr Dawson's approval, he recommended that .they be given • a coat of tar during the dry weather. He was authorised to get necessary work done on Mangatainoka Valley and Mangaoronga Roads. The Clerk, having been in indifferent health for ■ some time, it was resolved to grant him leave of absence for two months ■on full pay. It was mentioned that 'he had not had a holiday during the -last fifiean years. The Clerk, while •appreciating highly the Council's kind proposal, intimated that it would be inconvenient to take advantage of it at the present time. A special meeting the Council will be held on Saturday, the 28th instant, to pass a resolution making a Special Order authorising the raising of a loan of £3OO for metalling on • the Opaki District Road. The loan will be raised' by the Masterton County Council, but as part of the ' special rating area is within the Mauriceville County, certain formal proceedings require to be taken by the Mauriceville County Council. A plan of the proposed new County Office was laid before the Council, and approved, and the Chairman and Cr Heckler were appointed to deal with the matter. Accounts amounting to £324 7s 8d were passed for payment. The next ordinary monthly meeting will be held on January ,23rd.
