ROYAL COMIC OPERA COMPANY.
Fresh from their Wellington triumphs Mr J. C. Williamson's; Royal Comic Opera Company will make their appearance at the Town Hall tonight, when they will be present the London Gaiety success,'.' The Orchid." The cast is a very long one. All sorts of characters are pressed into the hunt for the valuable orchid which starts with a wager between an English Cabinet Minister and a French diplomatist as to which can produce the finest bloom. The troubles of the two pairs of lovers that get mixed up by the registrar who marries them widens the field of mirth and fun covered by the orchid chase. Added to this are the charms of lovey lyrics set to catchy airs, • frequent interludes of graceful dances, remarkable specialities, and brilliant effects. Mr George Lauri, as Meakin (the gardener of the Horticultural College), and Mr W. S. Percy as the duelling French Count, who travels around with two seconds and picks quarrels on the slightest provocation, are the chief comedians. Chief among the new artists is Miss Clara Clifton, who will play the part of Caroline Vokens. Miss Olive Godwin as a pupil teacher at the college fills very gracefully the leading lady roll. Other leading characters will be interpreted by Mr Arthur Crane, Mr Fred Leslie, Miss Evelyn Scott Mr J. Ralston, Misses Nellie Wilson and. Katie Potter. The box plan for to-night's performance is at Miss Rive's.
