EXHIBITION BOWLING TOURNAMENT.
SEVERAL EXCITING FINISHES. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 15. Play in the Champion Rink Tournament was resumed this morning under most favourable auspices. The weather was clear and sunny, and the heat much less oppressive than that of yesterday. The grounds were in good condition at the opening of play, and improved as noon approached, leaving nothing to be desired on the score of keenness. Several magnificent finishes were witnessed, that between Bishop (Christchurch) and Carswell (Taieri, 'Otago), in v/hich the latter snatched a victory by one point in the first round of the day, being of the m6st sensational character. Carswell and Kilgour (Carlton, Auckland) have won all the six games in their respective sections, and whatever the result of to-morrow's games may be, they are certain of places in the final | for section winners. The position of most of the other leading players will be uncertain until the result of to-morrow morning's play is ascertained. The most noteworthy feature of to-day's proceedings was the downfall of Allnut's (Roslyn) rink, which, although winning every game yesterday, failed to notch a victory to-day. A strong North Island team of sixteen rinks was selected this evening to play a South Island team on; the Canterbury Green on Friday (ladies' day), and on paper promises to afford a splendid contest. It is intended, if possible, to make a start with the doubles, (for which 174 entries have been received) on Thursday, if the finals of the rink championship are sufficiently far advanced.
