OBITUARY.
THE EX-QUEEN OF HANOVER. Received January 11, 8.27 a.m. LONDON, January 10. It was the Duke of Cumberland's mother—not his wife, as reported in a cablegram, dated 7th inst. — who underwent an operation at Gmunden, in Upper Austria. The patient has succumbed. She suffered intensely during and after the operation, which was conducted without anaesthetics, owing to her advanced age. (The Duke of Cumberland's mother had nearly completed her 89th year. She was a daughter of a late Duke of Saxe-Altenburg, and was married in 1843 to King George of Hanover, whose kingdom was in 1866 incorporated with Prussia).
