MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

THE GASWORKS LOAN,

A special meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held, last evening, to make a special order for the l-aising of the balance (£11,000) of the gasworks loans of .£IO,OOO and .€2,500, maturing on Feburary 28th, 1907. The Mayor presided,and there were also present—Crs J. Elliott, E. G. Eton, J. C. Ewington and E. McEwen. It was decided to fix the term of the £II,OOO loan at ten years. The Council then passed the special order fixing, the rate at 7-16 'of a penny in the £ on the unimproved value of all rateable property in the Borough during the currency of the loan. The rate will be an annual recurring one, and be payable halfyearly. A special meeting of the Council will be held on February 12th to confirm the special order.
