GENERAL TELEGRAMS.

By Telegraph—Press Association. NAPIER, January 10. The Borough Council had a proposal submitted to them some time ago by Messrs Roberts and Stokes, of Auckland, to establish electric power for lighting and tram service, and asking for certain concessions. The Council appeared favourably disposed towards the scheme, but at their meeting, last evening, three other applications were received, asking that the applicants be given an opportunity to submit similar proposals. The matter has, therefore, been adjourned for further consideration, and the Council will in the * meantime endeavour' to ascertain the terms which have been made elsewhere withj regard to proposals. The aunual sales of thoroughbred yearlings from Te Mahanga and Mangatarata studs took place to-day, but prices were not as high as usual. One of the Mangatarata lot, the bay filly by The Possible— Hinemeitepo, brought top price, 160 guineas, being the only one to reach three figures. Messrs B. Shadwell (Canterbury), J. McManaway (Carterton), and G. P. Moore (Kai Iwi) were the outside buyers. NEW PLYMOUTH, January 10. The 14th conference of the Primitive Methodist Church of New Zealand opened this morning, 78 delegates answering the roll call. The elections resulted as follow:—President, Rev. C. E. Ward (Wellington) ; Vice-President, Mr G. Huffey (Geraldine); Secretary, Rev. B. Dudley (Greendiile). The Rev Pybus, late delegate to the English conference, reported that all the business on behalf of the New Zealand conference, had been passed. At the musical evening by the United Church to-night the President was inducted. The Rev. Ward's father preached the first Primitive Methodist sermon in Taranaki in the open air over 60 years ago. The first draft of stations will be completed to-morrow.
