Received January 9, 9.15 a.m. LONDON, January 8. The Board of Trade returns for . December show that the imports amounted to £54,673,982, and the exports to £31,409,175. The total trade of the year amounted to £983,660,806 —a record. - The exports were £45,856,299 above those of 1905 and the imports £42,967,976 higher. Received January 9, 10.50 p.m. LONDON, January 9. ■ The Times, commenting on the Board of Trade returns, says that Britain has done nothing fiscally to bring about the present period of prosperity, which is' considerably overdue. The wave of trade activity is general, almost universal, and is enjoyed by the most protectionist nations as fully as Britain.
