COMMERCIAL.
MASTERTON WOOL, SKIN, AND | HIDE SALES. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report as follows:—"We held our monthly sale of wool, skins, hides and tallow, yesterday, offering 50 bales wool, j 150 bags wool, 1,500 sheepskins, 300 hides, and a quantity of tallow, I horse-hair, and rabbit skins. There was the usual good muster of buyers, and bidding was on very satisfactory basis, and almost all lots on the catalogue were sold under the hammer at full time rates. Wool sold at fully equal to last sale rates, and skins also. Hides were sold under the new system, taking effect from this sale, at per lb. The prices realised were satisfactory, but the get-up of hides offered in v this district is not good, and vendors lose materially through the carelessness shown by them in salting hides. We quote:—Wool— Crossbreds 93sd to IOJd, dead 8d to lOd, crutchings s£d to 6 Ad, pieces and bellies 6?. dto 7sd, locks 4d to s£d. Skins —Fine crossbred and halfbreds 9d to S|d, crossbreds BJd to 9|d, dead 6?>d to 7&d, dead hoggets 62d to 7£d, hoggets B£d to 9d, pelts 7£d to Bd. Hides —Best cow and ox s£d to 6d, inferior and slippy 4Jd to sd§, stag 3Jd to 4d, calf (good) 7d to 7fd, calf (medium) 5d to 7d, inferior 4d to sd, Tallow —Tins 16s to 18s, casks 20s, sacks 13s. Horsehair, Is 6d. The next sale will be held on February 13 th."
The Wairarapa Farmers' Co-oper-ative Association, Ltd., in conjunction with Messrs Dalgety and Co., 1 held their monthly wool, skin and hide sale yesterday. They report as follows There was a large attendance of buyers, and bidding was very keen. We offered 1,000 sheepskins, 100 bags and 15 bales of wool, 500 hides and a quantity of horsehair and tallow. We quote the following prices realised: —Wool: Fleece 8d to 9f, fleece (seedy) B£d, lambs B£d to 9id, dead wool Bid to 9d, lambs wool (seedy) 7£d, crutchings 6Jd to 6fd, pieces 5d td 6|d, locks and pieces 4£d. Horsehair, Is 6d per lb; and tallow, 22s 6d and 17s 9d per cwt. Skins: Merino 9£d, crossbred (fine) 9|d, crossbred Sfd to 9d, crossbred (broken) 7d, crossbred (seedy) BJd, crossbred (dead) 7d to 7Jd, crossbred (dead and seedy) 6£d to hoggets 6fd, hoggets (dead) 7Jd, pelts (green) each 3s 4d, pelts 2s 8d each. Hides: Cow (heavy) 6d per lb, cow (medium) s£d, cow (light) Gd, cow (slippy) 4fd to sd, cow (cut) s|d,ox (heavy) sJd,ox (medium);, sgd, ox (slippy) 4£d, ox (cut and slippy) 4|d, yearling 5Jd, calf 6| per lb, calf (cut) 4£d, calf (slippy) 4§d, calf (cut and slippy) 4Jd. Horse hides, 6s 6d each. Our next sale is fixed for February 13th, 1907, and entries are now being received.
MASTERTON STOCK SALE. Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd., held their fortnightly stock sale at the Masterton yards, yesterday, when entries were confined to cattle, of which a large number came forward. Probably on account of the holidays there was only a moderate*attendance of buyers, and bidding was consequently -dull, though several sales were subsequently effected. Good 3-year-old steers made £5, 18-months and 2-year steers 51s, and 8-months heifers 40s,mixed yearlings 37s 6d.

THE TALLOW MARKET. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received January 3, 8.33 a.m. LONDON, January 2. At the tallow sales 1,487 casks were offered, and 723 sold. Prices are unchanged from those ruling on December sth, but are Is to Is 6d higher than the lowest accepted since. Fine mutton tallow brought 38s 3d.
FROZEN MEAT MARKET.
NAPIER, January 3.
The Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company have received from their London house, to-day, the following cabled report:—The frozen meat market is slightly weaker. Today's quotations are:—Napier, Wellington and North Island mutton 4fd; beef, hindquarters 3|d, forequarters 3Jd.
