RACING, THE SOULTITE PROTEST

HASTINGS, January 3.
Mr G. P. Donnelly, owner of Te Uira, winner of the Matapiro Hack Handicap at the races, yesterday, considering that the protest lodged by his trainer was trivial, has instructed , the Secretary of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club to pay the stakes to the owner of Soultite, which won the race, but was disqualified owing to the rider not including a breastplate when weighing-in.
INVERCARGILL, January 3
At an inquiry, held to-night, the Committee of the Southland Racing Club disqualified T. Shaw for five years for deliberately pulling Bluestone in the Gladstone Handicap at to-day's races. The horse was disqualified for a similar term. The owner, R. Kennedy, who was not present at the races, was disqualified for one year, and his brother, W. Kennedy, who said he was acting as R. Kennedy'o representative, was disqualified for five years.
