M.C.C. v. CANTERBURY. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 81..The cricket match, Canterbury v. M.C.C. team was continued on Lancaster Park to-day. The weather was beautifully fine, and the ground in good order. The feature the day's play was the first wicket stand by Ollivier, and Anthony, who made 130 before being separated. This is a record for a New Zealand team against England. Neither batsman gave a chance, both exhibiting a good defence. At the commencement An* thony scored the faster of the two, v but after making 30 he stead!®? 1 *" down, and O'llivier did most of the run-getting. The last-named was top scorer. At the outset he did not shape too well at Simpson-Hayward's slows, but played the, other trundlers correctly, and scored freely off anything loose. Anthony, contrary to expectations, batted well, facing the lobs and playing them very differently to ; the hesitating manner he did on Saturday. Lawrence was a bit shaky at first, but • afer a few overs he settled down, and his innings included several nice strokes. Orchard made a few good hits. Sim never seemed at ease to Simpson-Hayward, who bowled him. The second innings of the visitors d was again disappointing. Johnson. 7 and Harrison did fairly at the start, but the latter was the only one to give much trouble, and, barring a hard chance, batted well for his runs. Page again hit freely during his stay. Johnson made a few nice cuts. At present the visitors are 68 runs on and have four wickets in hand, so the "tail" will have to play up to give them a chance.
