CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.

A special meeting of the Castlepoint County Council was held on December 22nd, in order to pay the road men before the holidays. Present—Councillors Speedy (chairman), Langdon Bennett and Innes. Correspondence was read from —Department of Labour, re fixing half-holi-day; from Colonial Secretary with copy of Local Government Bill; from C. E Daniell, re culvert timber and cottages; from Coradine and Whittaker re cottages; from Constable Collerton, re expenses of funeral of late A. McDougall.

Mr Thos. F. Smith attended the meeting, and applied for permission to erect his boundary fence on the road for some two chains where the slip occurred on the big hill. Mr R. L. Langdon supplied a schedule of charges for teams using his paddock when metalling on the road.

Mr Murray supplied notice of the transfer of his Awapiripiri property to Mr Buxton.

The District Road Engineer wrote stating that the vote of £IOO from last year had been renewed for the Landgale road. The Rev. Andrew applied to have / the road metalled from the Uriti - Langdale Road to his shed at the Whareama River, a distance of 40 chains.—lt was resolved that Mr Andrew be informed that at the present there are no funds for the work applied, but provision will be, made next year. Mr F. W. Groves applied for a refund of rates paid in error (£1 10s 4d). It was decided to refund the amount. It was resolved that Thursday be again fixed for the weekly half-holi-day; that the road overseer be directed to examine the place where Mr Smith applied to put the fence on the road and report to the next meeting; that finger posts be erected at the Langdale and Tinui Junction, also at Black Hill andiTinui-Whaka taki junction of roads Accounts /amounting to £497 8s 4d were passed for payment.
