CRICKET.

CANTERBURY v. M.C.C

By Telegraph—Press Association,

CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 29

The cricket match, Canterbury v. M.C.C, commenced at Lancaster Park, this afternoon, when the weather was fine, and the ground had completely recovered from the previous night's \rain. De Trafford captained the Englishmen, and won the toss, sending his opponents into the field. The batting was very disappointing. Before the tea adjournment seven wickets were down for 80 runs. After the adjournment Fox and May were soon got rid of, but Curwen and Tufnell made a fine stand for the last wicket, taking the score from 104 to 200, when Curwen was bowled for a fine innings of 76. Tufnell (not out) had hit 37. The last 96 runs took 32 minutes to make. Calloway and Bennett bowled well until the last men got together, when all the trundlers were hit freely. The fielding was g<\pd all round. Canterbury had forty minutes to bat before the drawing of stumps, and by careful play scored 35 for no wickets. Scores: —
