NELSON COLLEGE JUBILEE.

By Telegraph—Press Association. I . NELSON, December 28. This, afternoon the erection of the new building in place of the old Nelson College, which was destroyed by fire a little over two years ago, was celebrated. A garden party had been arranged, but owing to rain the gathering took place within the building, and there was a very large attendance. Amongst the speakers were the Hon. R. McNab, who urged the encouragement of scientific research. He said New Zealand had done well in copying the best methods of older countries, instancing the dairying industry, but he suggested that there was much to be done in the way of original research, and pointed to the possibilities of greatly advancing the flax industry and by utilising the at present waste products of our forests. By other speakers the early settlers and founders of the College were alluded to in grateful terms. The Old Boys are continuing their Jubilee celebrations with social functions.
