Thursday. Since writing l«*at lovely weather ; baa prevailed, and numerous settflera have barued their bush in consequence. It is many years sinoe it baa been possible to do this in Deoember. l'ho> burns in our district have been all that uoold be de&ired. On lharsday last two men resident Shere were nearly poisoned by partaking of Borne tinned herrings, and tomato sance. The men were seized with most violent pains. It was •found neoessary to telephone for Dr Bar tie tt, and he arrived'promptly on the scene. The sufferers are V □ow out Of danger. The clearing of the recreation ground is almost completed. On Friday last, Mr Burton, JU.8.0.V.5., Government Veterinary Surgeon, visited this district, accompanied by Inspectors Wayne and Usher, to investigate a disease that a dairy cow was suffering from. The symptoms were peouliur and Mr Enrton has forwarded parts of ■the animal to Wellington to be On Saturday last the first competition for the trophies presented by Messrs,Alberthsen and Dowden was •fired by tbeTararua Kifle Club. A shipment of cheese, consisting of 150 cases will' be despatched on Friday from the Nireaha Co-oper ■ative Dairy Company.
