A FATAL FIRE.
• By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRIBTCHURCH, Deo. 2. A fatal tire oocnrred at Christ-church-early yesterday morning. A fire broke oat in &u old dilapidated building used as a boarding bouse, and the flames spread rapidly. The body of 'lhomns Laidlaw, aged 25, was found on a bed in the room where iha fire bad been fiercest. As he was found on a bed other than that uu which bo slept, he evidently endeavoured to escape,and was overcome by the smoke.' The body and clothing were not badly burned. At the inquest the Coroner said that the bottles and other things found in the house suggested that there bad been a drunken spree during the evening. He expressed himself strongly against allowing old dilapidated buldings to ?tand in the city. The inquest was adjourned to allow the police to mak6 further enquiries in connection witu the fire.
