WELLINGTON LAND BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Wellington District Land Board was held on Thursday. Mr J. Sfcrauchon, Commissioner of Lands, presided. There were present also Messrs A. Reese, J. Dawson, and T. H. Robinson. Leave of absence was granted to Mr J. Stevens, M.H.R. TRANSFERS APPROVED. The following transfers weire approved on the usual conditions: — Section 30, Hastwell V. S., frpm H. W. Watson to W. Biay; section 15, block 9, Mount Cerberus, from T. J. Leslie to F. L. Fulcher; section 99, .block 13, Belmont, from A. Swindale to F. J. B. Crampton; section 100, block 2, Kopuaranga, from C. .Wagland to M. D. Colquhoun; part of section 1, block 13, Mount Cerberus, tfrom D. C. Missen to S. E. Whitta; NON-RESIDENCE AND OTHER DEFAULTS.

It was, resolved to occept Mrs E. M. A. Mason's residence with her husband on section 40, block 7, Tararua, as sufficient compliance

with the residential conditions attached to her lease of an adjoining section.

The ranger reported tha| A. Mason was living in a tent on his'section at Aohanga. It was decided to call upon him to live on the section in a habitable house. It was i-esolved that Miss F. M. McPhail must either reside on her section in Mangahao or convert her lease. A further report was received from the ranger concerning the failure of Mr P. A. Waterson to reside ♦ on section 17, block 4, Tararua. The Board decided to call upon Mr Waterson to show cause why his interest in the section should not be declared forfeited for non-compliance with the conditions of the lease as to the improvements, residence, and payment of rental. The Commissioner submitted a summary of sixty-two reports of rangers, which showed that fiftyseven selectors had complied with the conditions of settlement, and that five were defaulters. It was resolved to take the usual action in connection with the defaults.

LEASES AND SUB-LEASES. The application of J. T. and A. C. Smith for a lease of section 1, block 4, Tararua, was declined. The Board decided to offer the land for se lection in terms of part 3 of the Land Act, 1892, at £3 per acre. J. Braddick was granted the option of a lease of section 178, block i 3, Mangaone, under section 114 of the Land Act, 1892, at £9 per acre. A report was received from the Crown Lands Ranger, on the application of A. Hathaway, for a lease of the Landing Reserve, section a 65, block 7, Rewa. It was resolved that, as there was no public road access the Board did not thipk it advisable to grant the request.. Section 28 of block 2, ~ Mount Cerberus, was allotted to*J. C, Bishop, selector of the adjoining section, at a rental of £1 7s 6d per acre, weighted with £6 2s 6d for improvements.

MISCELLANEOUS MATTERS. The Eketahuna County Council having asked that a gravel reserve should be laid off in : the Totara reserve, Nireaha, tfte Commissioner reported that a five-acre reserve had been pegged out by the surveyor. Consideration of the application of W. P. Seaton for a transfer of section 8, block 11, Kaitieke, to J. G. Hullton, was deferred to enable, th'e rental to be paid up. A ballot was taken with regard to section l, block 1, Waipawa (Dyer settlement). There were four applicants, and Mr Charles Hulbert was the successful candidate.
