CHARGES AGAINST A PUBLIC OFFICER.
A. W. PURVIS IN COURT.
FURTHER ACCUSATIONS,
Alexander Wait Purvis, secretary and treasurer of the Wellington Benevolent Trustees, and master of the Ohiro Home, appeared on remand before Dr A. McArthur, S.M., at Wellington, yesterday, charged with theft and false pretences in respect of £33 12s belonging to the Benevolent Institution. Six further informations of theft and false pretences in respect of £2B 18s, £4l 10s Bd, and £2O 10s, belonging to the institution were also preferred against the accused. Mr H. D. Bell applied for a remand until December 28th, the understanding being that accused be remanded from time to time until January 21st, when the charges would-be heard. Mr Blair, on behalf of Mr Skerrett, who is appearing for the accused, offered no objection, and His Worship grafted the application. Bail was allowed as before in self £2OO and two sureties in £2OO each, which was forthcoming.
