LANGDALE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The settlers of Langdale are having erected for their use a Public Hall. Another structure for the convenience of the settlers and the travelling public is in course of erection, viz : the new bridge over Cripp's Creek at the junction of the roads. The condition of the country and stock from a pastoralists point of view is all that can be desired. Looking at it however from the agriculturalist side it is anything but good. The last three months have been very dry and crops that were coming on are almost done for want of rain. One settler put in 25 acres of rape, and f the result so far is disappointing. The country badly needs rain. Sheep breeders are taking advantage of the long spell of fine weather to get shearing completed. The results obtained by sheds that have already "cut out" are very satisfactory, the wool clip being much better both in quality and quantity than previous seasons. Mr Don Bennett of Langdale clipped from an ordinary flock Romney Ram within 21bs of the quantity of wool taken from Messrs Gray Bros.' Romney Ram which secured the championship at Carterton Show, the weight of the wool was 181bs. The Champion Romney Ram was sold for 100 guineas.
