Miss H. Jenkinsou, of Masterton, who will leave shortly lor Nelson,was made tbe recipient of a gold brooch by Miss E. Keiseoberg, on behalf of tbe Masterton Orchestral Society, on Thursday evening. Influenza has been prevalent in the .Wairarapa, and as a result tbe attendance at some 30 schools visited by the Wellington Education Board's Truant Inpector, has been only fairly good lately. On and after January Jat*.1.907, interest will be allowed on Post Office Savings Bank deposits at tbe rate of 3% per cent, up' to £300; and 3 per oent. on sums over £3OO. No interest will be allowed on sums over £6OO. The Masterton Municipal Brass Band will piay a select programme of mu9io in the Park to-morrow afternoon. Among the items to be rendered will be "I Lombardi," tbe test piece for tbe .International Exhibition Contest. A collection willy betaken up iu aid of the Contest Funds. A telegram from Dannevitke last evening stated that in tbe case, (toneluded yesterday, of Sfeelly v. Gurr, a olaira for £l3O for compensation for breach of agreement, Mr James, S.M., gave judgment for tbe defendant, on costs being allowed. The case has occupied tbe attention of the Oourfc for the last three sittings. Mr Geo. Lett, of Taueru, met with an accident, yesterday, 6u the portion of the Tuueru Road known as "Tbe Devil's Elbow." Owing to tbe btaka on the vehicle Mr Lett was driving falling to* apt the horseß bolted, and Mr Lett was thrown heavily on tbe road. On being brought to Masterton he was attendei by Dr. A. Hosking, and was foundjo have dislocated his arm. Special services will be held in the Presbyterian Churoh to-morrow. The name that bas ,been chosen— Knox Church—will be officially given to the Church. The Rev. Dr. Gibb, of St. John's Ohurob, Wellington, will officiate at the morning and evening services. Appropriate Churoh masic will be rendered, About a week ago, said' Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., «t the meeting of the Wellington' Education Board, on Thursday, the Wellington School Commissioners granted an additional three aures of land to the Lansdowne School. This gave great satisfaction to tbe settlers.—lt was deoided that the thanks of the Board be extended to the Commissioners'for their generous action. Mr W. H.
