MASTERTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

HEADMASTER'S REPORT. The Headmaster of the Masterfcon District High Snhool submitted the following report to the meeting of the School Committee last evening: —Attendauae—<Main School,roll 584; average attendance, 507; per centage of attendance, 87. Side School, roll 150; average attendance, 329; percentage of attendance, 86. Secondary Glasses, 96; average attendance, 86; percentage of attendance, 90. The attendance has not yet fully recovered. Whooping cough and influenza have kept a number of children away from sobool during the month. Very few have been absent for other reasons than sickness. 1 forward a copy of tho absentee report for the month of November. At the end of the present month several of the pupil teachers retire from the staff to enter tho Training College. In tilling the vacancies an assistant will, I understand, be appointed in die places qf iwo pupil teachers in acourdanoe with the recommendation of the Committee. This will leave one pupil teaoher vacancy to be filled. The school will close on Friday the 21st instant, for the summer holiday of six weeks. 1 would suggest that the following repairs be attended to during the holidaytarring and sanding of paths, and round building at Side School; tarring and sanding in playgrounds at Main Sohaol; overhauling of flushing cisterns at the Main School, and substitution of chain pulls for rods; repairs to gates and back fence at Main School. Tenders have not yet been invited by the Board for the painting and repairs to be done at the Side School during the vacation. The grass has not been cut. It will become a source of danger if not attended to soon. The leaky standpipe taps referred to by me last month have not received attention. The various works mentioned in the report were referred to the visiting members and the Headmaster to attend to.
