MASTERTON SOUTH BAND CONCERT.
A conoert promoted by the Mastertou South Band, in aid of the instrument fund, was given in the Town Hall, last evening, and was a deoided success. There was a large attendance. The programme was a varied and interesting one, and the frequent encores that were demanded showed that it met with general approval". 'Mr J. Parker, one of the leading cornet Dlayers in New Zealand, gave two solos, "Stelrmark" and "Ihe Holy City." His playing was a treat to listen to, and each item was encored. Mr 3. J. Johnston, who ia the possessor of a splendid tenor voice, was heard to advantage in "Come Beloved" (with 'cello obligato by Mr H. Inns) and "My Pretty Jane." Mr Johnston received two well merited encores. Miss Ettie Joyce, a young singer of no mean ability, was re-called for her rendering of each of the popular airs, "Molly" and "Hear the Pipers Calling, Jenny Mine." Mr Harry Hall sang a number of comic songs, and was vociferously enoorad. Master Gougb, a clever young violinist, with his sister, who plays the piano nicely, rendered a number of popular airs, and ivas encored. "Professor Karl" gave a clever exhibition of conjuring, and wns assisted by Mr S. Cresswell. The* popular air, "Would You Cave" wae sung in fine style by Miss Jndd. Mr F. Cole gave an interesting exhibition of skating. Songs by Miss F. Millar and Messrs S. Ralph, W. Iggulden, A. Naeb, A. Niool, and selections ) by the Musterton Orchestra were all warmly applauded.
