MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
WORKS COMMITTEE.
The ordinary meeting of the Borough Works Committee wan held last evening. Or MoEwen occupied toe ohair, aud there were also piesent—Crs J. Elliott, F. W. Temple, T. G. Hoar, J. 0. Ewingtun, and W. Morns. Apologies for absence were received from Crs J. H. Pauling, E. Feist, and E. G. Eton. The County Clerk wrote asking the Council to forward the amount due by the Council in connection i with the expenses of the recent Licensing Committee elections. As the Counoil did not know whether the question of expenses had been settled or not, tlie Town (Jlerk was instructed to obtain further particulars in connection with the rnattor before paying the amount. Captain Dixon, of the Fire Police, waited on the Council aud asked for fluauoial assistance. He stated that the corps were now £l3 las fid' in debt, and if they did not get some assistance the corps would have to disband. He usked that the £l3 15s 6d b% paid by to* Council. The Chairman informed Onptain Dixon that his best course would bo to make further application to the Council aud tho I'lre brigade Committee would attend to the rcatter. It was decided to invito tenders for the supply of sixty cast lronaervioe boxes fur hydrants in connection with the water extension in the bbrougb. It was resolved that the new footpaths in linll Street should be 13ft wide, and in Chapel Street 12ft: wide.
After discussion it was decided to ask the ratepayers at the South ond of Dixon Street whether they would be prepared to pay half the ooßt of a footpath iu that street. in thß event of the Council carrying out the work. Tenders were accepted as Co'low:— Removing and re-ereotiug fences, York Street, W. Dowling, £24 9s; two tip drays, £2O 17s 6d each, F. Martin, Maurioeville. An offer from S. Connell to do the work of forming and gravelling Jo Church Street at £4 13s per chain was accepted. It waa decided to accept tiie tender of Mr R. Krabagen, at £4O, tot the strip of land adjoining Wrigley Street extension.
lenders for the installation of electric Are alarms in the borough were received from four firms, and 'it was decided to deal with the tenders at the next meeting.
The Gas Manager was instructed to proceed with the work of laying down the foundation at the gasworks for the new gasholder, which is expected to arrive shortly. The work is estimated to cost £l5O. Tenders are to be called for ihe
work of carting and supplying the gravel in connection with the work. Aooounts amounting to £548 10? 2d were passed for payment.
